Employers to check COVID passes

Employers will be allowed to condition employee access to workplace on having COVID passes. As Justice Minister Mária Koliková declared on Wednesday, the Government will furnish employers with tools to check the COVID passes of their employees legitimately. The new rule is to apply to all employees, both in the state and private sectors.

The minister added that the legislation is worded in such a way that it can come into effect immediately, theoretically as early as of Friday (November 12). "Potentially, as of Friday, as of Saturday, employers will be granted the right to find out their workplace status and organise the labour accordingly," she said.

The bill will be passed in Parliament in a fast-tracked procedure. On Monday (November 15), the Government could hold another session and, based on recommendations from the Health Ministry, approve a resolution to regulate conditions for workplace access. The worst-hit regions should let in only the vaccinated, those who have overcome COVID-19 or those who have tested negative for the disease.

Kolíková emphasised that legislative changes and stricter sanctions are aimed at increasing the protection of health professionals, and enabling employers to take measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

As of next Monday, 52 out of 79 Slovak districts will be considered ‘black’ according to the COVID-19 automaton.
