More than 1,300 health-care professionals working in hospitals supported a public call for citizens of Slovakia to be vaccinated. In a letter addressed to the public, they stressed that ever younger people are being admitted into hospital and that hospitals are having to reduce the number of planned operations. In their letter, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and physiotherapists point to a constant increase in the number of infected patients and to the exhaustion suffered by medical staff. “Despite our efforts, care for patients with other diseases is becoming more and more limited. An increasing number of wards and hospitals are having to put planned operations on hold,” stated the health-care professionals. They emphasise that most of the deaths from COVID-19 were avoidable, as vaccination could have prevented them. “There's no need to be afraid of vaccination or its side effects,” stressed the health-care workers, adding that they expect the situation in hospitals to worsen further.
