“The state doesn't have enough resources to reconstruct the main railway station in Bratislava by itself,” Transport Minister Andrej Dolezal (a 'We Are Family' nominee) stated on Wednesday. Dolezal sees a solution in a private investor. According to him, the main station must therefore be reconstructed as a zone together with its surroundings in order for it to make commercial sense. The Minister noted, however, that there are a number of other acute problems on the railway within the country that the state must address. Bratislava mayor Matus Vallo said that the state of the main station and its surroundings could only be resolved by the city of Bratislava in cooperation with state-owned railway infrastructure operator ZSR and the Transport Ministry. The minister confirmed that, in cooperation with the capital, they would carry out an urban-architectural competition for the reconstruction of the main train station and its surroundings.
