Government approves setting up Slovak Primeval Forests reserve

According to an Environment Ministry-sponsored motion that was approved by the Government on Wednesday, a new natural reserve called the Slovak Primeval Forests should be set up on 1 December. The motion will designate hitherto insufficiently protected forests as protected areas. In total, the reserve will include 76 areas located in all regions except Nitra, and will cover an area of 6,460 hectares. According to the ministry, one third of the reserve’s total area will overlap with the natural habitats of the western capercaillie species, also known as the wood grouse.
