Slovak firefighters helping Austria

Slovak firefighters returned home on Monday afternoon from Lower Austria, which has been bedevilled by extensive forest fires that spanned an area of 115 hectares. The Slovak firefighters were putting out fires located in inaccessible terrain, which might have continued to spread in the unfavourable winds. Slovakia despatched a helicopter from the Interior Ministry with a six-member crew and six firefighters to carry out the so-called 'bucket work', in firefighter parlance. During the two days they were out on the call, they performed 57 drops, which means 171,000 litres of water dropped on the fires to douse the flames, informed the Interior Ministry.
