PM Heger: V4 has specific traits that need to be brought to EU table

Central Europe has its specific traits, which is why it is necessary to bring these issues to the table in the EU, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) stated in an interview for Czech news-only television channel CT24 on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia. In Heger’s opinion, the V4 can play a positive role within the EU but it will be important in this context to preserve the strong bond between Slovakia and the Czech Republic. “I don’t know any other two nations that have as close-knit relations as [Slovakia and the Czech Republic] have,” remarked the prime minister.

On the same occasion, President Zuzana Caputova has stated that the current Slovak Government is fragile, it faces a number of challenges and it is burdened by internal conflicts.

The president reproached Slovak politicians for abusing the fact that the public has been divided for the sake of their own political goals. In her opinion, the division in Slovak society stems from disinformation. “Truth as a value is being heavily tested nowadays. We seem unable to agree on what the truth is. Expertise is being questioned, we lack respect for education. We need to be determined to find the truth,” said the president.
