President Zuzana Caputova vetoed the State Service Act on Monday on the grounds that it paves the way for ousting state managers without stating any reasons, and thus only for political reasons. Caputova also vetoed an amendment to the state police service, which was attached to the motion in a manner violating legislative rules. The bill is changing the effects of different, unrelated legislation. The head of state pointed out that the bill weakens the principle of political neutrality and the professionalism of the state service. According to Caputova, the bill also stands in breach of recommendations by several international institutions and Slovak commitments to de-politicise the state service and make it more professional.
