European Council to tackle hike in energy prices

On Thursday and Friday, the Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OLaNO) is attending a meeting of the European Council in Brussels. EU leaders are set to discuss the recent hike in energy prices and take stock of the European Commission’s proposed “toolbox” of measures to tackle the situation. Earlier this week, the European Commission's president Ursula von der Leyen told member states that they are "too reliant on gas" amid an ongoing energy crisis that has seen gas prices soar to record-high levels. According to von der Leyen, the recent spike in gas prices has hit the EU’s most vulnerable families and thus the Comission’s president advocates for the transition to clean energy, which is according to her not only vital for the planet, but also crucial for the economy and for the resilience to energy price shocks.
