National Parks Reform withdrawn from government agenda

National Parks Reform withdrawn from government agenda

Environment Minister Jan Budaj (OLaNO) reported on Wednesday that the Government at its session on the same day withdrew from its agenda a planned reform of the country’s national parks, adding that he’s planning to sign a memorandum along with Agriculture Minister Jan Vlcan (an OLaNO nominee), due objections to the reform voiced by the We Are Family party.

The memorandum, according to Budaj, should dispel the concerns of We Are Family head Boris Kollar regarding the planned transfer of national reservation land to the management of conservationists. Budaj is aiming to publish the memorandum next Monday. Parliament should vote on the draft memorandum at its ongoing session.

Kollar announced last week that We Are Family would not support the reform. In his opinion, it should be passed only after a new zoning system for national parks is completed.
