Slovak world class diva passes away

Slovak born soloist of Vienna State Opera, Edita Gruberova, passed away on Monday aged 74. Born in Bratislava, refused by the Slovak National Theatre, Edita Gruberova started her career as a soloist in Banska Bystrica, central Slovakia. Her international career was triggered with the Vienna State Opera in 1970 in the role of the Queen of the night in Mozart’s Magical Flute. From 1978 to 1983, for 5 years in a row, she was the Queen of the night at the prestigious Salzburg festival too. Of course, it was not only this part in which the world class coloratura soprano of Edita Gruberova proved her talent. Juraj Bubnas, the programming director of the Slovak Philharmonic, provided RSI with brief memories of the world famous soprano.
