The Žilina University has launched a research project, financed by European funds, aimed to study the interaction between railway wheel set, rail and brake system with an eye towards reducing noise during braking. "We've developed a unique testing state by using new materials, with which we plan to reduce the noise in railway transportation," said university rector Tatiana Corejova.
The laboratory, at which the researchers work, is equipped with a testing prototype of brake components called RAILBCOT. Žilina University acquired resources to the tune of €61.5 million as part of the operational programme Research and Development. "With 34 Europrojects under their belt – realised via the Agency of the Education, Science, Research and Sports Ministry for Structural Funds, Žilina University is among the most successful in Slovakia," said Education Ministry spokesman Michal Kaliňák.
