President Ivan Gašparovič: Ukraine must achieve stability on its own

The Ukrainian conflict has changed the perception of the security situation in the whole of Europe, Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič stated on Tuesday at a round-table meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama, Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski and leaders of other Central and Eastern European countries in Warsaw.

According to the Slovak President, Ukraine first and foremost needs internal stability, and this can't be achieved with the help of others, but only through Ukraine's own representatives. President Gašparovič therefore welcomes the fact that Ukraine has taken the first step by proceeding to a presidential election and voting in Petro Poroshenko as its new leader. Gašparovič further confirmed his participation at the inauguration of Poroshenko that is to take place on 7th June. Accompanying him will be Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák.
