Slovak Vice-premier and Finance Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO) has joined the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action. The Slovak Finance Ministry is joining this international initiative in order to improve its ability to take into account the fight against the climate crisis in its policies, and to respond to its economic consequences.
The Slovak vice-premier said that he views this coalition as a key player in shaping the role of finance ministries as a driving force in this effort. He emphasised that engaging in this coalition will enable Slovakia to apply the best international expertise and better implement the planned measures at the EU level within the "Fit for 55" package and the Recovery Plan. By joining the coalition, Slovakia has declared its support for the so-called Helsinki Principles, which aspire, for example, to take climate change into account in macroeconomic policy, fiscal planning and budgeting.
