Two-times Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda and former Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš announced on Wednesday that they are leaving their mother party SDKU-DS, citing the party's unfulfilled aims as a reason. Dzurinda and Mikloš once held the posts of chairman and vice-chair of the party however for the past 2 years have been the SDKU’s MPs in Parliament without any post in the party.
In 2012 the party then replaced its leaders with new faces in an attempt to restore people's trust in the party. Mikuláš Dzurinda and Ivan Mikloš have done a lot of work for Slovakia and the SDKU party, but their era is over and a new generation has a chance now, stated the current SDKU chairman Pavol Frešo. The decision of Dzurinda and Mikloš is a pretty strong blow to the party and possibly the result of the inability to resolve the party's internal problems, stated analyst Grigorij Meseznikov. Despite leaving the SDKU-DS party Dzurinda and Mikloš remain members of Parliament and allegedly neither of the two is to join another party or set up a new one.
