Problems with the lack of semiconductor components have resulted in a limitation of the SUV production in Volkswagen Slovakia's Bratislava plant since last week, company spokesperson Lucia Kovarovic Makayova announced. However, the production of small vehicles continues without any limitations.
Moreover, on Monday, Jaguar Land Rover suspended production at its plant in Nitra due to a lack of semiconductors. The production in the plant will remain suspended until October 15.
"As a result of this, we're adjusting our production plans in individual plants based on the current situation. Employees of the affected plants will receive compensations equalling 80% of their average salary," said Remenárová. Employees who are not directly engaged in production activities will continue to work either in the plant, or from home, she added.
"Chip supplies remain very volatile and the situation is tense. Therefore, further adjustment of production cannot be ruled out," stated Kovarovič Makayová. "Depending on the situation regarding component supplies, Volkswagen Slovakia will do its best to make up for the production shortfall by the end of the year," she added.
Jaguar Land Rover currently employs almost 4,000 people in Nitra, mostly residents of the Nitra region. Volkswagen Slovakia employs over 11,000 people.
Czech carmaker Škoda Auto announced a significant limitation of its production last week.
