Employment in August 2021 increased in yearly terms only in the field of information and communication technologies - by 6.5%, and in selected market services - by 0.5%, the Statistics Office reported. Employment in other sectors of the economy fell, most notably in accommodation - down 4.6%. Other yearly decreases were observed in wholesale and in restaurants and catering establishments - both down 2.8%; in the sale and maintenance of cars - down 2.5%; in retail - 2.2%; in transport and warehousing - down 0.8%; in industry - down 0.5%; and in construction - down 0.2%.
Average employment rates in the January-August period increased year-on-year only in the IT sector - by 3.2%; and in selected market services - by 0.5%. Conversely, average employment rates in the first eight months of 2021 declined compared to the same period in 2020 in accommodation - down 14%; in restaurants and catering establishments - down 8.8%; in construction - down 5.4%; in wholesale - down 5.1%; in retail - down 3.7%; in industry - down 2.8%; in the sale and maintenance of cars - down 2.5%; and in transport and warehousing - down 2.2%.
