Disagreements within coalition over reforms

On Monday, the Speaker of Parliament and Head of We Are Family Boris Kollár claimed that his party would not support the planned reforms of the health-care system and judiciary in their current form, even at the cost of leaving the coalition. "If they [the other coalition parties] want to get rid of us, so be it, I will leave," said Kollár, pointing to a section of the Government Manifesto that speaks of support for depopulated regions and districts. "In my book, there is no worse move than to depopulate these regions even further by shutting down courts and hospitals. These institutions are among the largest employers," remarked Kollár.

Both reforms are based on the rationalisation of the current network of hospitals and courts respectively. This would mean that some courts and hospitals would change their status and some would be merged.

According to Health Minister Vladimír Lengvarský, no hospitals should be shut down as part of the health-care reform. As part of the justice reform, some courts would be closed down and other would take up their competences. Nevertheless, according to the Justice Ministry, the reform is being prepared by taking into consideration reasonable accessibility.
