Economy Minister suggests scrapping labour offices to save state costs

Labour offices in Slovakia might be scrapped in the future, Vice-premier and Economy Minister Richard Sulik (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS) said following the Cabinet session on Thursday. Sulik gave it as an example of where the state expenditures might be saved, as he thinks it is not the state's role to search for jobs for people and pay several thousand civil servants for doing so. Sulik raised the issue in the context of the ongoing discussions on the 2022 budget. Labour Minister Milan Krajniak (We Are Family) replied to this suggestion, that a better step than closing labour offices would be the scrapping of the Ministry of Economy. "The Ministry of Finance could take over the energy sector and the Ministry of Transport can organize the Expo in Dubai since they are in charge of tourism," said Krajniak.
