American and Slovak presidents meet

US President Barack Obama met with Slovak president Ivan Gašparovič and the newly elected Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko in the Polish capital city on Tuesday as part of round-table talks on energy and security in Eastern Europe.

Immediately upon arrival in Warsaw Obama declared that “European security is the foundation of America's security ... It is a commitment that is extremely important at present”. Obama’s trip to Europe aims at strengthening ties in Transatlantic relationships, with the US wishing to deepen cooperation with its European allies and pursue an agenda that can shore up both the security and economic foundations of the Transatlantic partnership, according to Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Ben Rhodes at a White House press briefing on May 30.
