President to deliver speech on eve of Charlemagne Prize Ceremony

President Zuzana Caputova is set to appear on Friday in the German city of Aachen on the eve of the Charlemagne Prize ceremony to deliver a speech on the challenges faced by Europe. "In recent years, the gala dinner on the eve of the award ceremony has included a speech focusing on a political assessment of the state and vision of Europe by a selected personality," explained the President’s spokesman Martin Strizinec. Several other prominent figures from the European political scene have been invited to the ceremony, including European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission vice-chair Vera Jourova, as well as this year’s winner of the Charlemagne Prize - Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.

The International Charlemagne Prize has been awarded by the City of Aachen since 1950 for services to European unity, cohesion and understanding. The award ceremony, which will be attended by Caputova, will take place on Saturday.
