V4 Finance Ministers meeting

V4 Finance Ministers meeting

Finance Minister Igor Matovic (OLaNO) took part in the meeting of Visegrad Four (V4: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia) finance ministers in Budapest at the invitation of his Hungarian counterpart Mihaly Varga on Thursday. The meeting revolved around current issues such as the economic recovery, implementation of the recovery and resilience plans and the fight against the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Matovic, in the future, the V4 countries might not always be the ones that only look up to the original EU member states. "But on the contrary, western countries might look up to us. The numbers don't lie and economic results of our countries are unequivocal," he claimed.

The ministers praised their positive experience with cooperation in taxes and customs, which contributes towards a more efficient fight against tax frauds. Slovakia also supports the EU initiative to combat money laundering, tax evasion and frauds.
