Emerson moves production abroad

The American company Emerson, which employs around 1,300 people in Slovakia, is moving part of its production to Romania and Hungary, according to Hospodárske Noviny daily. “Emerson's goal is to maintain its competitiveness, and we are adjusting our decisions and capacities to this aim.

The organisational changes concern 115 employees”, said general director of Emerson's Slovak branch Milan Sestak. The transfer should be completed this month with the firm concentrating its production, service and research capacities in Romania. Emerson had as many as 4,000 employees in Slovakia just a few years ago. "Slovakia is losing its competitiveness, as labour costs are growing faster than in most EU-member countries”, said Luboš Sirota, chairman of the managing board of personnel agency McROY Group.
