Prime Minister convening Security Council session over situation in Police

Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽaNO) announced on Thursday morning that he had convened a session of the Security Council for the afternoon of the same day. At the session, the prime minister aims to present his plan for dealing with the status quo within the police. Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď (OĽaNO) stated in this regard that he is unhappy with the state of affairs in both the Police Corps and the prosecution service. "A fundamental decision needs to be made," he said, remarking that every further step needs to be considered carefully. Meanwhile, Labour Minister Milan Krajniak (We Are Family) noted that he is not surprised at the situation within the police, claiming that his party has been pointing for quite some time to certain suspicions concerning the police that need to be investigated. In his opinion, the Government should ponder how to set the system of checks and balances in order to prevent any manipulation of criminal proceedings. Several members of the security forces in the country have been detained in the past few months, most recently on Monday. A number of politicians have spoken about a war within the police in this regard.
