Pope Francis in Šaštín celebrates Our Lady of Sorrows

In Slovakia, September 15th is dedicated to the country's patron saint, Our Lady of Sorrows. The veneration of Mary, mother of Jesus Christ in this region dates back to the 13th century. One of the most important sites connected to the Marian cult is located in western Slovakia. The basilica in Šaštín is one of the basilicas minor, the basilica dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows.

On Wednesday morning Pope Francis arrived in Šaštín (Trnava region) to celebrate the main Mass of the national pilgrimage to Our Lady of Sorrows. Zuzana Botiková spoke to Martin Kramara, spokesperson for the Slovak Bishops' Conference, about the importance of pope's visit to Slovakia on this national holiday.
