Foreign minister: UNESCO plays unique role after 75 years

Education, science and culture are the basic pillars of modern society and UNESCO plays a unique role in this area even 75 years since its setting up, Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korcok (a Freedom and Solidarity/SaS nominee) emphasised at a meeting of the Partners Forum of the Slovak Commission for UNESCO, which he opened on Wednesday. "We've seen the presence of UNESCO in Slovakia especially since 1993, when our first monuments were included on the prestigious World Heritage List. We already have eight today. I see it not only as a matter of international prestige, but also a commitment to approach these localities with respect and dignity in order to preserve them for future generations," said Korcok, highlighting efforts and coordination across several institutions in Slovakia and abroad that have contributed to the successful registration of Slovak monuments on the UNESCO list.
