President Zuzana Caputova and Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir have initiated a joint call by female political leaders to support the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan. At the same time, they called on current and future Afghan political leaders to refrain from violence against Afghan women and girls and to respect their rights. "Apart from the differences between us, men and women are equal, and their rights are inalienable and unquestionable," states the call, adding that the international community must keep vigilant watch on the situation in Afghanistan and monitor the respect shown for the rights of the most vulnerable groups. "We, as female political leaders, want to assure Afghan women and girls that we'll closely watch the developments in your country, that we'll listen to your voices and continue to support your rights and opportunities," states the document. The call has already been supported by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Estonian President Kaja Kallas, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Lithuanian Premier Ingrida Simonyte, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Norwegian Premier Erna Solberg and New Zealand Premier Jacinda Ardern.
