Defence Minister Jaroslav Nad (OLaNO) on Tuesday awarded military medals to 32 soldiers, two civilian employees of his ministry, US Ambassador to Slovakia Bridget Brink and Slovak Ambassador and Permanent Representative to NATO Peter Bator, for their contributions to the evacuation of Slovak nationals, as well as Afghan citizens who cooperated with the Slovak Armed Forces, from Afghanistan.
According to the defence minister, the evacuation operation was "a small miracle" as the Armed Forces had only 27 hours to prepare for it. In this vein Nad pointed to the security, logistical and diplomatic challenges of the operation, and thanked the awardees for their professionalism and willingness to help Slovak nationals.
