The Bratislava facility of Volkswagen Slovakia will suspend its production of luxury SUV cars for two additional days - Thursday and Friday (September 2-3) - due to the current shortage of semiconductors, company spokesperson Lucia Kovarovic Makayova announced on Tuesday. Smaller-sized city cars will continue for the time being to be produced according to the current production plan.
SUV production has been halted throughout this entire week. "At the moment, we're taking into consideration the fact that with chip supplies continuing to be quite unstable into the third quarter of 2021, the situation is to remain tense, with the chip crisis about to culminate. Therefore, additional production adjustments cannot be ruled out. The availability of the chips is expected to see improvement by the end of the year," added Makayova.
