Mining company to receive €7.2 million in state aid due to closure

The Upper Nitra Mines Prievidza company (HBP) will receive financial assistance at the level of €7.2 million from the state budget. The sum should be used to facilitate the closure of uncompetitive mines according to an agreement the company signed with the Economy Ministry on August 2.

"The aid is exclusively intended for extraordinary expenses connected with employees who will lose their jobs because of the decreasing coal extraction, or for surface safety work connected with the closure of coal mines, cleaning up the former mining localities and their recultivation," explained company spokesperson Adriana Siváková. She added that employees who lose their jobs in direct connection with the shutdown programme or for organisational reasons will receive compensation in accordance with the legislation and valid collective agreements.
