Neither Slovakia nor the Czech Republic can boast about the turnout in the elections to the European Parliament (EP), but what can be appreciated about the election results is the fact that they were won by pro-European parties, said Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič and his Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman on Tuesday when assessing Saturday's EP elections in both countries.
Gašparovič pointed out that the EP elections showed that extremist parties don't have much support in Slovakia, referring to the recent election result of far-right Banská Bystrica regional governor Marian Kotleba’s LS-NS party. On his visit to Prague, Gašparovič also spoke of domestic possibilities, and how the good relations between Slovakia and the Czech Republic could improve in trade cooperation and common investments. “We see a possibility in common investments also in third countries, as Slovakia is today able to invest also abroad”.
