Prime Minister Eduard Heger has paid tribute to all the miners who have died in the line of duty, at the same time pointing out on a social network that Victims of Mining Disasters Day is now included among Slovakia's memorial days, commemorating the greatest mining tragedy in the country's history. The tragic event took place on August 10, 2009 at the Handlova Mine (Trencin region).
"I believe the day is near when the Slovak energy sector and economy will no longer need coal. We'll produce less emissions and people will no longer have to risk their lives working in the extreme conditions underground," he added. A total of 20 people died in the tragedy at the Handlova Mine.
