A tornado hit the village Petkovce in the eastern Slovak district Vranov nad Topľou on Thursday evening and damaged several houses. Mayor of Petkovce Pavol Hybala informed the TASR press agency on the same day. Firefighters are currently taking action on the spot. "Damage to four family houses was reported, after their roofs flew away with the wind. Several trees have been broken and power lines have been torn down. A local road is impassable," announced the Firefighter directorate in Prešov. "You could see the air swirling, lifting everything up. Sheets from the roofs were carried some 100 metres away. It only hit the lower part of the village. The whole thing lasted maybe a minute, but it demolished everything and there's havoc here," said the mayor, adding that he isn't aware of any fatalities or injuries as a result of the tornado. The tornado had a preliminary rating of F2 with the wind speed up to 200 kilometres per hour, reported the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute.
