U.S. Steel employees march against working hours extension

Hundreds of employees of the U.S. Steel Košice steelworks marched through the Košice city centre on Monday, protesting against changes to an appendix to the current collective agreement that will expire on March 31, 2024. The weekly working time is the main point at issue. The head of the OZ KOVO trade union at U.S Steel Košice, Juraj Varga, said that the weekly working time at the plant currently stands at 35.5 hours, which the union wants to preserve, while the management plans to increase it by 2 hours. The question of a pay rise for this year and other benefits are among further points of contention between the two sides. "Our negotiations continue and we believe that we will manage to come to agreement in the end," U.S. Steel Košice spokesman Ján Bača has told TASR press agency.
