Tonne of dead fish collected from Hron River following bio-gas station leak

Slovak Environment Inspectorate spokesperson Tamara Lesná reported on Wednesday that the exact number of fish that have been killed since Monday in the Hron River near the village of Trnava Hora, hasn't been determined yet. The mass fish mortality in the river was caused by a leak from a local bio-gas station that took place after a storm-toppled tree fell on a container in the facility. The person(s) responsible for the pollution in the river could be fined up to €165,000. According to the spokeswoman, the environmental impact hasn't been determined yet, as the investigation hasn't been concluded. The inspectorate has reported in the meantime that more than a tonne of dead fish has been collected from the river, including several protected species.
