"Whatever is the reason for Pope Francis choosing Slovakia as the country he will visit, we are really delighted. It is a big thing for us." This according to Slovak Bishops' Conference spokesperson Martin Kramara, who also added that it's up to the Pope to decide when he will express his reasons for coming to Slovakia. "Let's wait to hear what he says when he comes," said Kramara.
In early July, Pope Francis confirmed that he's set to visit Slovakia on September 12-15, having accepted the invitations extended to him by the Slovak Catholic Church, President Zuzana Caputova and members of Government. It has been 18 years since the last papal visit to Slovakia, with former pope John Paul II visiting the country in 1990, 1995 and 2003.
