Slovakia's hopes of hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics together with the Polish city of Krakow were dealt a fatal blow in a referendum when a majority of the Polish city's residents voted against making a bid for the Games. The proposal, which included plans to hold skiing events in the Slovak mountains, was rejected by more than two thirds of those who voted over the weekend.
