With the lowest turnout in the EUs history, on Saturday Slovakia has elected thirteen new Members of European Parliament (MEP), representing a total of eight political parties. The 2014 European Parliament elections in Slovakia reached a European all-time low at 13.05 percent, with the EU average standing around 43 percent.
According to official election results released by the Central Election Committee after 11 p.m. on Sunday, Smer-SD won on 24.09 percent, which translates into four MEP seats - a drop by one from current five MEPs. The MEP seats in the new European Parliament will go to Maroš Šefčovič, Monika Flašíková-Beňová, Boris Zala and Vladimír Maňka from Smer-SD, Anna Záborská and Miroslav Mikolášik from Christian democrats, Ivan Štefanec and Eduard Kukan from SDKU-DS, Branislav Škripek from Ordinary poeple, József Nagy from the Slovak-Hungarian Most-Híd party, Richard Sulík from the eurosceptic Freedom and Solidarity party, Pál Csáky from the party of Hungarian community and Jana Žitňanská from the party called New majority.
