The official campaign ahead of the election to the European Parliament ended at 7 a.m. on Thursday, making way for a 48-hour moratorium on campaigning. During the two days, as well as throughout Election Day (Saturday, 24 May) all activities aimed at promoting individual candidates for MEP seats are banned.
"Based on the valid legislation ... it's prohibited to broadcast and publish any information concerning the political parties and/or coalitions of parties running in the election, either in their favour or against them, on radio and television broadcasts and in the mass media, in both spoken and written form as well as through pictures and sound," said head of the Interior Ministry's section for elections, referenda and political parties Eva Chmelova. The vote, which is the third of its kind in Slovakia, will feature a record-breaking 29 parties that qualified for the race for the 13 seats. The results of the vote won't be published until May 25 (Sunday) at 11 p.m.
