None of the five women taken to hospital due to injuries they sustained in the collision of cruise ship Swiss Diamond with one of the pillars of Bratislava's dismantled Old Bridge on Thursday morning needed extensive medical treatment, spokesperson Petra Matasovska of the network of five hospitals in Bratislava (Bratislava University Hospital) said later in the day.
"Four Spanish women aged 57-74 suffered multiple contusions with suspicion of possible fractures and other internal complications. The medical tests didn't confirm these concerns, however. A 35-year-old Slovak woman, who suffered a contusion of the thoracic spinal area, didn't need to be hospitalised, either," said Petra Matasovska. A total of seven people suffered injuries in the crash - six women and one man, said Emergency Services spokesman Boris Chmel. Three ambulances plus one fireboat were deployed to tackle the situation. Swiss Diamond belongs to Swiss shipping company Scylla AG. It was built in 1996 and runs on the route from Passau to Hungary and back. No further details on what led to the collision are available so far.
