Belgian Ambassador explains Chovanec case in Slovak Parliament

Belgium honours the memory of late Slovak citizen Jozef Chovanec; the trial and disciplinary proceedings against police officers continue, and the planned reconstruction of the case is to take place on September 21. The Belgian Ambassador to Slovakia Ghislain J. M. D'hoop informed about this at a meeting of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee to which he was summoned on Wednesday. Several members of the committee stated that the investigation of the case has been taking too long. The ambassador assured that the Belgian authorities have communicated with the Slovak authorities transparently and constructively since the beginning. Jozef Chovanec died in February 2018 following a tussle with the police at Brussels South Charleroi Airport.
