The opposition Smer-SD party will challenge an amendment to the Penal Code in the Constitutional Court over a new crime of 'electronic harassment' it is going to introduce, the TASR press agency reports. Smer-SD wants the bill's effects to be suspended as it is drafted in a vague, confusing language that might undermine freedom of speech.
In effect as of Thursday, the bill has introduced the new crime of electronic harassment to combat cyber abuse. If anyone uses an electronic communication service or computer network to intentionally and systematically humiliate, intimidate or harass another person, they might face up to three years in jail. The same holds also when a perpetrator publishes or leaks to a third person a visual, audio or audio-visual recording of a private nature without the person's approval, if such a recording could undermine the person's dignity.
