Marian Kocner charged with ordering murders of top prosecutors

Crooked businessman Marian Kocner was charged on Monday with ordering the murders of prosecutor Maros Zilinka, lawyer Daniel Lipsic and senior prosecutor Peter Sufliarsky, the Prosecutor-General's Office confirmed on the same day. The story was broken by the Dennik N daily. While the Prosecutor-General's Office declined to comment on the matter, Lipsic , who is now Special Prosecutor, told the TASR press agency that it was clear from the beginning that the only person who had a motive for ordering the murders was Marian Kocner as the three targets were a threat for his shady business deals. Meanwhile, Sufliarsky, declined to present his "subjective feelings" when approached by TASR press agency, adding that the investigation is only in its early stages.

Marian Kocner is currently in jail for falsifying promissory notes. The first court decision that found him not guilty of ordering the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee who were shot dead in 2018 was overturned by the Supreme Court in mid-June. The case is back at the Specialized Criminal Court in Pezinok.
