Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger stated on Thursday shortly before the EU summit in Brussels that EU leaders must address the delta variant of novel coronavirus. As he added, Slovakia's position has not changed when it comes to the issue of migration. In his opinion, the talks regarding the fight against the pandemic should focus more on the delta variant. "We have to address this so that we acknowledge the risks stemming from it and can learn how ready individual countries are for it," he said.
Further topics on the agenda of the summit will be migration and the recovery of EU economies. The European Commission has already approved several national recovery plans for the EU's Recovery and Resilience Facility.
"As for migration, Slovakia's stance on that is constant and consistent. We are in favour of dealing with migration in the countries of transit and origin," the premier remarked.
When asked about his opinion on Germany's proposal to convene a special EU-Russia summit, Heger replied that EU-member countries must first arrive at a joint stance so that they will know what they actually want to say to Moscow. Only after this should the EU hold talks concerning when, where and who should attend the summit.
