Slovakia's football team on Wednesday ended its journey at the UEFA European Championship 2020 following a 5:0 defeat at the hands of Spain, who enjoyed a home advantage in Seville.
Following a 2:1 win against Poland and a 0:1 loss against Sweden, which earned the team 3 points in the first two matches of the group stage, Slovakia needed to draw with Spain in order to advance from Group E.
"We won the first match; as for the second, we lost because of a penalty. Unfortunately, we wrapped up our journey at the tournament with a match in which there was an obvious difference between the performances of the two teams, and we simply failed," commented Slovak coach Stefan Tarkovic on the loss, calling it the "cruellest" of his career.
