2021 to be worse for tourism than 2020

It is turning out that 2021 will be even worse for Slovak tourism than the last one, said Marek Harbuľák, head of the Slovak Tourism Association (ZCR) told a briefing on Tuesday, adding that the use of tourism services would probably be concentrated within three to four weeks of this year, especially at the turn of July and August.

"The year 2020 was certainly the worst year for tourism since Slovakia became independent. The number of visitors and overnight stays decreased by more than 47% compared to the period before the pandemic, so it actually halved. The same applies to revenues. The notions which we presented in March this year, when we claimed that this year would be even worse than the last one, are, unfortunately, still being fulfilled, with the data showing an even more significant drop in both visitors and revenues, despite the fact that the measures are loosening," he said. Harbuľák emphasised that there are still significant restrictions on tourism facilities, which limit either the number of visitors or otherwise restrict the tourism business.
