Central Crisis Management Team discussed steps to be taken regarding the current pandemic situation including the occurrence of the delta variant at its meeting on Thursday. After the session, Interior Minister Roman Mikulec said that new measures to respond to the situation could be adopted by Monday (June 21).
"In principle, the point is to get a better overview of people returning from different countries," said Health Minister Vladimir Lengvarsky (an OLaNO nominee). He mentioned border checks, but also better traceability in preparation for the third wave. "At the same time, it'll be an important task to tell the population that the only freedom is vaccination because the interest in vaccination is currently stagnant," added Lengvarsky. People should also be informed about the need for online registration via eHranica (eBorder) and the conditions under which they can travel.
Deputy Foreign Minister Martin Klus (SaS) stated on Thursday ahead of a session of the central crisis management team that Slovakia must do its utmost to prevent people from bypassing anti-coronavirus measures upon returning to the country from abroad. Speaking of the coronavirus delta variant, Klus remarked that it will definitely find its way into Slovakia and that it's important that as many people as possible are vaccinated within the shortest possible period.
Infectologist Vladimir Krcmery said that there will be no problem with travelling during the summer. However, the return home might be questionable with regards to the changing situation in individual countries. "You should either spend your holiday in Slovakia and support local tourism, or go on holiday to a place to which you can travel by car," Krcmery advised tourists.
