Employment increased year-on-year (y-o-y) only in information and communications services and in selected market services in April 2021, the Slovak Statistics Office reported on Monday. Employment in information and communications services in April rose by 3.4% y-o-y, while in selected market services it grew by 2.4%. Meanwhile, it fell most significantly in accommodation - by 19.7%, and in pubs and restaurants - by 12.2%.
Y-o-y decreases were also recorded in the following sectors: in construction - 5.1%; in wholesale - 4.7%; in retail - 4.5%; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - 4.3%; in industry - 3%; and in transport and warehousing - 1.6%.
Average employment rates for the first four months of 2021 increased y-o-y only in information and communications activities - by 1.7%.
Conversely, employment went down in the following sectors: in accommodation - by 21.3%; in pubs and restaurants - 13.5%; in construction - 8.2%; in wholesale - 6.4%; in retail - 4.7%; in industry - 4.6%; in the sale and repair of motor vehicles - 4%; in transport and warehousing - 3.4%; and in selected market services - 0.4%.
