Slovak Education and Science Employees Trade Union head Pavel Ondek deems the additional €130 million for the education sector envisioned in a report on the state of education to be unrealistic. The report was supposed to have been approved in September 2013, but remains unapproved.
It includes financial commitments to increase funds to education by €130 million annually until 2016, while the first increase was to be seen as early as this year but failed to materialise. If the report doesn't get to the Government, the unions plan to take a position. In March the Education Minister Dušan Čaplovič reiterated that he wants to keep his promise to increase the salaries of primary and secondary school teachers to 1.2-times the average salary by 2016, which would up the teachers' income to more than €1,000 a month.
