Lowest number of deaths in past seven months recorded in Slovakia in April

The lowest number of deaths in the past seven months was recorded in Slovakia in April, according to the latest figures published by the Slovak Statistics Office on Tuesday.

The COVID-19 disease was no longer the most common cause of death. The highest mortality rate was reported for the category of younger seniors (65-74 years).

Circulatory system diseases were the most frequent cause of death in April, making up 38 percent of deaths and claiming 2,000 lives. These were followed by COVID-19 (24 percent and 1,300 deaths), cancer (19 percent), respiratory diseases (6 percent) and digestive diseases (4 percent).

The highest proportion of people who died from coronavirus in April were older than 65.
