Pandemic development exceptionally favourable

The development trend of the COVID-19 pandemic in Slovakia remains extremely favourable. According to Health Analyses Institute head Matej Mišík there are fewer than 600 COVID-19 patients in hospitals, and the rate of decline has accelerated slightly. Slovakia is thus approaching the capacities of standard infectious beds. The number of patients in need of lung ventilation has also gone down, namely from 90 to 63. More than 1.6 million people have received at least the first dose of a vaccine, representing 34 percent of the population over the age of 16. In the category over 70, it is already 65 percent. A total of 774,928 people are fully vaccinated. The share of vaccination varies in individual areas of Slovakia. It is the highest in the west, reaching about 40 percent near Bratislava. However, there are also districts with only 16-percent vaccination. Misik expects this problem to deepen. Next week, according to the COVID automaton, there will be three districts coloured medium red, 11 light red, 41 in orange and 24 in yellow. The situation has improved in most districts.
